Penn Cove Team Updates

Fall 2025

Jesse Broderson

Purchasing Manager

Meet Jesse (if you haven’t already!)  our newly promoted Purchasing Manager. A Whidbey Island local, his Penn Cove story spans more than 14 years., Jesse joined us in 2012, right after high school, and has continued to grow his career with Penn Cove ever since. His previous roles have included a warehouse worker, a clam and oyster harvester, a mussel harvester, a delivery driver, and a clam raft supervisor. Now, Jesse is stepping into purchasing. He’s proud of the hard work behind that journey and loves having grown alongside the farm he calls home. Jesse and his wife, Brooke, together since high school and married for eight years, still live on the island. His favorite shellfish? Penn Cove Mussels, of course! Steamed in a big pot with whatever tasty ingredients he can find in the fridge.

Desirae Lujan

Shellfish Sales Support Specialist

Meet Desirae, our new Sales Specialist whose Penn Cove journey spans farm, warehouse, delivery, and environmental stewardship. She joined in June 2022 as a Mussel Farm Worker, learning hands-on teamwork and respect for the ocean, then moved into the warehouse and often filled in as a delivery driver, connecting directly with customers. As EHS Coordinator, Desirae linked science, food safety, and sustainability. Today, she brings that full “farm-to-fork” perspective to sales, helping customers understand both our shellfish and the value behind them. Outside of work, she loves fishing, camping, and making Thai red curry mussels and seafood paella, and unwinds by playing guitar, ukulele, and piano.

Jessica Slocum

Shellfish Sales

Meet Jessica, our most recent hire on the Shellfish Sales team. She is a San Diego native who’s called Washington home for 20 years and loves life by the water. Drawn to Penn Cove’s locally grown, foraged-food ethos and a brand she considers a local legacy, she’s proud to sell what she believes are the best shellfish on the market. She cherishes Coupeville’s rural, laid-back, water-surrounded lifestyle, and off the clock, you’ll find her fishing, crabbing, prawning, mushroom foraging, cooking, boating, and enjoying dinners out that often feature Penn Cove shellfish in seafood towers, boils, and pastas.

Matt Weadick

Aquaculture Sales

Meet Matt, a new addition to our Aquaculture Sales team. He joined Penn Cove in May after a career in the beverage industry, seeking a chance to work with seafood he loves. His favorite part of the job is witnessing our shellfish journey from the water to customers’ tables, and he has deep admiration for the farm crews who make it happen. A devoted oyster fan, Matt’s go-to is Pacific oysters with a simple squeeze of lemon. And the best office view he’s ever had? Penn Cove, hands down.
